This is a translation. If it differs from the Spanish version, the Spanish version prevails: https://softyorch.com/projects/chronos-alarm/privacy

1. Who I am

Chronos Alarm ("the App") is developed by one person:

Data controller: Jorge Agulló (SoftYorch)

Website: https://softyorch.com Contact: softyorch@gmail.com

There is no company, no marketing department and no servers of my own. This policy explains what leaves your phone, what for, and how to stop it.

2. Summary in five lines

  • Your alarms, timers, titles and settings are stored only on your device. I do not receive them.
  • If the App fails, a technical report of the failure is sent. I need it to fix alarms that do not ring. You can turn it off in Settings.
  • Usage statistics are sent only if you say yes, and you can change your mind at any time in Settings.
  • If you send me an opinion from the App, I receive the rating and whatever you write, with your phone model and Android version. Only when you tap "Send".
  • No ads, no accounts, and I do not sell or hand over data.

3. What stays on your device

These are kept in the App's private storage and are not sent to anyone:

  • Your alarms: time, days, title, tone, volume, vibration, snooze and Sunrise Mode.
  • Your timers and their names.
  • Your settings (theme, alarm duration, alarm view).
  • Your answer to the statistics question.
  • How many alarms you have turned off and whether I have already asked for your opinion, so I do not ask more than needed.

Uninstalling the App deletes everything. Android may include this data in your Google account backup if you have it turned on; you manage that in the system settings.

4. Crash reports

What they are. When the App closes because of an error, or detects an internal problem (for example, it cannot open an alarm tone), it sends a technical report to Firebase Crashlytics, a Google service.

What they include:

  • The error trace: which part of the code failed.
  • Device model, manufacturer, Android version, screen orientation, free memory and storage, and whether the device is rooted.
  • App version.
  • Date and time of the failure.
  • An installation identifier generated by Firebase. It is not your name, email or phone number, and it changes if you reinstall.
  • Internal technical messages from the App.
  • Session data (that the App was opened and with which version), used to work out what share of uses end without a failure.

What they do not include: the title of your alarms, the names of your timers, your alarm times, your location or your contacts. If you have accepted the statistics, the report also includes the last steps taken in the App before the failure.

One exception I would rather tell you about: if the failure happens while opening a tone you chose from your phone, the error message generated by Android may include the path of that file.

Why they are sent without asking. The legal basis is my legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in the App being reliable: an alarm that does not ring is exactly the failure I most need to know about, and it usually happens to someone who cannot tell me. The report is technical and cannot be used to find out who you are.

Your right to object. You can turn them off at any time in Settings > Privacy > Crash reports. When you do, the App stops sending them and deletes any that were waiting to be sent. Everything else keeps working the same.

Retention: Google keeps the reports for 90 days.

5. Usage statistics (only if you accept)

What they are. Data about how the App is used, sent to Google Analytics for Firebase. They help me know which features are used, which are not needed, and whether alarms ring on time.

The detail, item by item, is in "What Chronos Alarm measures": https://softyorch.com/projects/chronos-alarm/metrics/en

When they are sent. Only if you answer "Sure, I'll help" to the question the App asks when you start. If you answer "No, thanks", or do not answer, nothing is sent. The App works exactly the same either way.

Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and Article 22.2 of the Spanish LSSI).

What they include:

  • Which screens are opened.
  • The welcome steps and which permissions are granted.
  • When an alarm is created, edited, turned on or off, or deleted, and how it is set up: type, whether it uses sunrise and snooze, vibration, volume, number of days selected, whether the tone comes from the App or the system and, if from the App, which.
  • When an alarm rings, how long it rings and whether it is snoozed, stopped or missed.
  • Whether Sunrise Mode starts, finishes or is interrupted.
  • Whether you see the opinion question, whether you send it, with what rating and whether it had text (never the text), and whether you open the Google Play listing.
  • When a timer is created or used, and its duration.
  • The settings chosen (theme, alarm duration, view).
  • Data Google Analytics adds on its own: device model, Android version, language, App version, approximate country and city (worked out from the IP address, which is not stored) and an installation identifier.

What they do not include: the title of your alarms or the name of your timers (only whether you changed them, not what you wrote), or the time your alarms ring.

It is not anonymous, it is pseudonymous. Google Analytics gives each installation an identifier. It does not carry your name and I cannot know who you are, but technically it identifies an installation, so I do not call it "anonymous".

How to withdraw it. In Settings > Privacy > Usage statistics. When you turn them off, the App stops sending data and deletes the identifier and any data waiting to be sent from your device.

No advertising. The App shows no ads and does not use the Android advertising ID. The advertising and personalisation features of Google Analytics are turned off.

Retention: 14 months for data linked to the identifier. Aggregated reports, which do not identify installations, are kept with no time limit.

6. Opinions you send me

What they are. The App may ask what you think of it, and the menu has a "Your opinion" option. If you give a rating and tap "Send", it is stored in Cloud Firestore, a Google service.

What they include:

  • The rating, from 1 to 5 stars.
  • What you write, if you write anything (500 characters at most).
  • The name and version of the App, your phone model, your Android version and the language and region you use the App in.
  • The date and time it was sent.

What they do not include: your name, your email or any identifier of your installation. That is why I cannot reply to you; if you want an answer, write to me at softyorch@gmail.com.

I do not call it anonymous. With few users, the phone model, the language and the time it was sent may be enough to work out who wrote it. And if you have accepted the usage statistics, it is recorded at the same time that this installation sent an opinion, and with what rating.

A warning: do not put personal data in the text (names, phone numbers, addresses). What you write reaches me as it is.

When they are sent. Only when you tap "Send". If you close the question or tap "Later", nothing is sent. It does not depend on the usage statistics: it is something you send yourself.

Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you give by tapping "Send".

Checking the App. Before accepting an opinion, Google checks that it comes from a genuine copy of the App on a real device (Firebase App Check with Play Integrity). For this, Google receives technical data about the device and the installation. It keeps anyone from filling the inbox with fake messages.

Rating on Google Play. Separately, the App may ask Google Play to show you its rating card, and the menu has a link to the listing. What you rate or write there is public and handled by Google Play; the App does not receive it.

Retention: 24 months from the day it is sent.

7. Who receives the data

Only Google, as the processor that provides me with Firebase Crashlytics, Google Analytics for Firebase, Cloud Firestore and Firebase App Check (Google Ireland Limited for users in the European Economic Area; Google LLC, United States).

Google may process the data outside the European Economic Area. It does so under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

Google privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy Privacy and security in Firebase: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy

I do not share data with anyone else. I do not sell it. I do not use it for advertising.

8. Android permissions

The App asks for these permissions and uses them only for what is stated:

  • Exact alarms (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM, USE_EXACT_ALARM): so the alarm rings on time.
  • Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): alerts for alarms, snoozed alarms, missed alarms and timers.
  • Full screen (USE_FULL_SCREEN_INTENT), display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) and turning the screen on (TURN_SCREEN_ON, DISABLE_KEYGUARD, WAKE_LOCK, HIDE_OVERLAY_WINDOWS): so the alarm shows even when the phone is locked and nothing covers it.
  • Foreground service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK): so the alarm and the timers keep ringing with the App closed.
  • Start-up (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED): to schedule the alarms again after the phone restarts.
  • Vibration (VIBRATE).
  • Modify system settings (WRITE_SETTINGS): to raise the screen brightness and the volume little by little in Sunrise Mode.
  • Read storage (READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, only on Android 12 and earlier): to play the tone you choose from your phone.
  • Internet (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE): to send the crash reports, the opinions you send me and, if you accept, the statistics.

The App does not ask for location, contacts, camera, microphone or calendar.

9. Your rights

You have the right to access your data, rectify it, erase it, object to its processing, restrict it and ask for its portability, and to withdraw your consent at any time.

One limitation I would rather tell you about: the data I receive does not carry your name or your email, so I cannot know which data is yours (Article 11 GDPR). So, in practice:

  • To stop sending statistics or crash reports, turn them off in Settings > Privacy.
  • To delete what is on your device, uninstall the App.
  • What has already been sent is deleted when the retention periods end.
  • To have an opinion you sent me deleted earlier, write to me with the approximate date and what you wrote: without that I cannot know which one is yours.

For any question or request: softyorch@gmail.com.

If you believe I have not respected your rights, you can lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (www.aepd.es) or with the data protection authority of your country.

10. Children

The App is not aimed at children under 14. I do not ask for your age or knowingly collect data from children. If you are under 14, do not accept the usage statistics or send opinions without permission from your parent or guardian.

11. Security

Data travels encrypted (HTTPS) between your device and Google. What is stored on your phone is in the App's private space, which other applications cannot access.

12. Changes to this policy

If I change this policy, I will publish the new version at this same address with its date. If the change affects what data is sent or what for, the App will ask you again before sending statistics under the new conditions.
